What are comments and Requests?

Updated

Comments let you start a conversation before you match. Comment on a photo or answer on someone’s profile, and it’s sent with a like to their Requests in the Chat tab.

Send a comment

  1. On someone’s profile, tap the speech-bubble button next to a photo or answer. In some versions of the app, you tap the photo or answer itself.
  2. Write your comment and tap send.

Your comment is sent along with a like. Comments are private between the two of you.

Find your Requests

  1. Tap the “Chat” tab.
  2. Tap the speech-bubble icon at the top right to open “Requests”.
  3. Switch between “Received” and “Sent”.

Answer a request

  • Open a received request to see their comment, then tap “Accept” to like them back. You’ll match, and their comment will be at the top of your new chat.
  • Tap “Delete” to remove the request. They can still send you another one later.
  • Tap “Block” if you don’t want to see them again. See How do I block or report someone?.
  • Opening received requests is part of Smitten Premium. Without it, their photos are blurred, and tapping a request shows Premium. If you like them when they show up in your Feed, you’ll still match, and their comment will be waiting in the chat.

Good to know

  • A comment uses one of your likes, the same as a regular like.
  • If they’ve already liked you, your comment makes it a match right away, and it goes to the top of your new chat.
  • If you’re already matched, your comment goes straight into your chat.
