How do reactions, replies, photos and GIFs work?

In a chat with a match, you can react to messages with an emoji, reply to a specific message, and send photos and GIFs. All of it is free.

React to a message

1. Press and hold a message.
2. Tap one of the emoji at the top.

You can also double-tap a message to react with a heart. To see or remove reactions, tap the reaction under a message to open “Reactions”, then tap yours (“Tap to remove”).

Reply to a message

1. Swipe the message sideways, or press and hold it and tap “Reply”.
2. You’ll see “Replying to …” above the message box. Type your reply and send it.

Send a photo or GIF

1. Tap the grid button to the left of the message box.
2. Tap “Photos” to take a photo (“Camera”) or choose one (“Photo Library”). If you choose one from your library, tap “Send photo”.
3. Or tap “GIFs”, search for one (“Search for GIFs”) and tap it to send.

Good to know

• Reactions count as activity, so they keep a match from expiring, the same as messages. See When do matches expire?
• Press and hold a text message and tap “Copy” to copy it.
• Sent something by mistake? You can unsend it.
